Blooming Blades Quilt – Tasha Quilts

Today – I’m talking about something so exciting (and terrifying) – my very first quilt pattern release!

Blooming Blades – Tasha Quilts

Background

Blooming Blades is a quilt I designed earlier this year. I then wrote the pattern when going through Alderwood Studio’s Pattern Writing Academy. This has been quite the journey, and I had a huge learning curve! I’m so happy with the end result. It is finally for sale – you can buy it here.

This quilt uses the quarter-circle block to create a unique pattern. Given that it uses only 1 shape and 2 different fabrics, it comes together relatively quickly and will be a great confidence booster for your curved pattern piecing.

Tip on Basting Curves

If you search around the internet, you’ll find lots of different methods for curves. These include pins, glue and even no pin methods. After doing quite a few curves myself, this has turned into my favorite method – but make sure you try a few different ways to find what works best for you!

  1. I fold the bottom piece in half wrong sides together and press to mark the middle
  2. I fold the top piece in half right sides together and press to mark the middle
  3. This creates a crease to nest the pieces together – make sure right sides together
  4. I pin in the middle where the crease is and add additional pins/clips as below. See the video below if you’d like to see how I do this! Jump to 15:03!

Blooming Blades – Bonus Templates

When cutting out the outer template pieces, you’ll be left with orange peel shaped scraps (see below). There is a bonus template included with two sizes that can help you use up these scraps. Choose the size that best fits your scraps!

Blooming Blades – Wrap Up

A huge shout out goes to my quilty friend Brenda. Thank you for all your help from the smallest decisions all the way through testing the quilt and my shop! I can never thank you enough for all your support!

If you make this quilt, it will mean so much to me if you let me know! It is so scary putting your work out into the world – so any feedback would be appreciated. I’m already onto my next adventure!
