10 Minute Fabric Gift Bag

If you’ve got some fabric and a sewing machine, you can have yourself a fabric sewing bag in just as quick of time as it would take to go to the Dollar Store. This is not lined, has no fancy closures – just something quick and easy you can make to give a gift!

If you’re more of a visual person, I created a video for this as part of Quiltmas 2025! I’m also super excited to be featuring this as part of TGIFF! Skip to the bottom of this post and you can showcase your own recent finishes – I can’t wait to see them!

Materials Required

Steps to Make a Quick & Easy Fabric Gift Bag

1. Prepare your fabric

  1. You need a rectangle for this project, I used a 12.5″ unfinished quilt block and a 12.5″ x 16″ piece of fabric. Or a 10″ x 25″ piece of fabric (either pieced or a single piece) is a good place to start.
  2. If you’re using a quilt block, attach the BOTTOM of your block to the rectangle you cut. If you’re piecing your rectangle make sure all seams are pressed (I prefer open)

2. Fold and Press the Edges

Once you have your rectangle fold over all the edges about .25″ (or slightly larger) and press! Start with the two long ends, then the two short ends.

3. Sew the First Seam

Time to sew! We are going to the sew fabric we pressed over on one of the short ends. If you used a quilt block, you’ll sew the fabric you pressed over at the top of that block.

4. Pin & Sew the Rest of the Bag

Now, you’ll pin the bag the way you want it and sew the remaining bits of folded over fabric in place while also creating the bag. I put a purple line in the photo of where you’ll be sewing.

Finishing

I finished with the pins linked above, and this was a great project – easy to stuff with some candy and gift cards for my kid’s teachers!
