6 of My Favorite Sewing Room Organization Ideas

If there is one thing I’ve learned over years of quilting, it is that an organized (even semi-organized) sewing space makes it much easier to maximize my team in my sewing time.

Today, I want to share a few of my favorite sewing room organization items that I use regularly!

1. Project Storage Boxes

This one is essential for me. I loved these so much, I bought two sets. I use them for my individual projects, keeping BOMs organized, I even have one filled with all my misc. cords and camera equipment I’ve acquired in my sewing room (I really need to purge it). I used to keep everything in plastic shopping bags, and I’ll never go back!

2. Car Vacuum

This one is a little weird, and it was a late night impulse buy – but I love it. This little rechargeable “car” vacuum. This is great for vacuuming up dust on my machine, around my machine and even my laptop that tends to get the fabric dust because of where it sits (it is really close to my sewing machine because that is how I film, stream, edit, etc!). I’ve bene using this for about 6 months at the time of writing this, about once a week or every other week and absolutely love it!

3. Pegboard

I really love my peg board and hanging my rulers on it. I got it at Home Depot and it has definitely helped me keep things off from my tables and to be able to more easily access the things I need. If you have the space for it, they are really helpful, but I do know not everyone will have space like I do!

4. Bobbin Boat

I used to keep my bobbin’s in a little case, but the lid never stayed on and they would spill and get misplaced. Then I received one of these Bobbin Boats as a gift, and this thing rocks! I only have one, but I am thinking about getting a couple more. I typically piece with gray thread and like to use up thread spools that are getting low by winding a bunch of bobbins at one time. I think have a bobbin boat purely dedicated to my favorite gray thread would be great!

5. Design Wall

I absolutely love my design wall, if you’ve seen me on my YouTube channel there is always something on it behind me. But mine is the lazy girls’ Design wall. It is just batting stuck to the wall with command strips (linked below). At the time of writing this, I’ve been using it for over a year and it is still doing great!!

6. Sewing Clips In Wooden Bowl

The last little thing I love are keeping these magik clips in a wooden bowl. I got my wooden bowl at a quilt show, but I think this one linked is pretty close! I am obsessed with these clips, these were such a good price. But I really love having them in a bowl so they are easy to move around and keep together! I think I’m going to order another 100 clips, how many is too many?
